Our history
Built at the intersection of markets and machines.
Avelorn began with technology. Founder Eric Shafer built his career in computer technology and artificial intelligence — with formal education from Purdue University and supplemental education at MIT — and went on to found two platforms: Admedius, in advertising technology, and Covenance, in financial technology.
Building those companies revealed how data, automation and machine intelligence could find signal where others saw only noise. The natural next question was whether the same thinking could be applied to investment markets.
Eric began developing proprietary strategies and deploying them with his own personal capital — combining AI and applied mathematics with behavioral psychology and the fundamentals of traditional finance, refined by the institutional trade-execution experience of advisor Rick Schendel.
Driven by the success of those investments, Avelorn is now opening to select investors for participation, from offices in St. Petersburg, Florida and New York City — guided by the conviction that disciplined process is the most durable edge in investing.
